International Youth Day 2020.

UNDENIABLY , Nigerian youths are suffering unspeakable harassment in the hands of the police, although we know some have a card up their sleeves. It is an undisputed fact that youth play an integral part in advancing development, democracy and peace, and in promoting values such as respect and understanding which Nigeria government can benefit from both technologically and economically.
Regretabbly, Their are numerous vivid reminder of the excesses of Nigeria police harassing our youth all over the country on the spurious pretext of fighting crime.
Many young ambitious and talented people have experience harrasments and unjustifiable acts of the police. Despite their drive and achievements, young people’s contribution to society often goes unrecognised, nor are they adequately invested in or included in decision-making processes.
Although there is no justifiable reasons to commit crime or involved in atrocious acts but at the same time young people face formidable issues of unemployment, discrimination and lack of access to education and healthcare and our government have failed to lift a finger.
Legally , the police have right to make arrests, but the power to impose judgment lies in the judiciary only. Nigeria grundnorm start to the effect that everyone is presumed innocent until found guilty. Brutality is the real face of policing in Nigeria. For this, they have been repeatedly caught in the act . At times, some youths have been murdered extra – judicially.
Conclusively, the government should Change Our World for the betterment of the society as the 2020 International Youth Day slogan implies. Also, our law enforcement agencies need to be reformed. All the law enforcement agencies especially the police should desist from their crude ways, laws, rules and regulations should be constitutionally obeyed. Left unresolved, these challenges will impede nations if our parents do not make their homes their children castles. Am aware that men make houses, women makes homes but this task of raising an ambitious youth and ensuring a crime free society is a joint task of both men and women.
Take home to the youth, there is no day that you won’t come across problems so instead of you to whine and complain be proactive and take the actions needful to surmount challenges. I know youths are not lazy, I know youths are ambitious and talented but they have to continuously exhibit the skills to the world.
